Motorsport, like any other technical sport, is quite costly; to compete under equal conditions, I need financial resources. What do I mean by that? There were times when the season’s budget didn’t stretch to fresh, grippy tires for every race, times when we couldn’t install a part on the bike because it would have been too expensive, and times when I had to prepare for a race under less-than-ideal circumstances. Long story short, it’s a complex equation to decide when and what to spend on so that conditions are equal. On the bright side, over my races so far I’ve learned how to win on worn tires or set a strong qualifying time — something not everyone can say. Those who always have everything can’t necessarily perform when conditions are tough. I’m grateful for the road I’ve traveled and for being able to learn this along the way.
